Travel from the laboratory to the farm

The CReSA has been granted by the Spanish Foundation for the Science and Technology (FECYT) for funding the project “Travel from the laboratory to the farm”. The project consist of developing a new website for allowing the citizens to know better the animals farm diseases and how the researchers investigate in the labs new formulas for solving these problems.

Mad cows disease, avian flu, bluetongue, salmonellas, swine fever… Research in the animal health field has a relevant repercussion on the quotidian life of the
citizens.

The project “Travel from the laboratory to the farm” is a project for diffusion of the science addressed to the general public and is based on the development of multimedia contents for enhancing the knowledge on science, research and animal health. It will be shown, in a pleasant, easy way the impact of the researchers’ activity in the labs on the animal life and health, the production of safe, quality food and, subsequently, on the health and welfare of the consumers.

This website is coordinated by the CReSA’s teamwork and will stand out for its attractive image with clear, high quality contents. It will offer divulgation contents in a pleasant but rigorous tone on different aspects of those animal diseases with relevant social, sanitary impact (mad cows disease, avian flu, bluetongue, salmonellas…). The users will be able to know what these diseases are, which symptoms the affected animals show, and how the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of these pathologies are carried out.

Moreover, it will be clearly exposed how the researchers and veterinarians of the CReSA are working at each step for solving these problems and improving the animal health.

This action pretends an approach of the science to the citizens, improve the knowledge on aspects related with research and animal science, be useful as a support tool for secondary education teachers and contribute to increase the interest for science among our scholarships.

The proposals have been evaluated by a Commission of Evaluation consisting of Eulalia Pérez, Almudena del Rosal, Amparo Gómez, Manuel Seara, Mariano Esteban, Pilar Perla, Ana Romero, Antonio Marín, Gregorio García, Javier Echeverría, Pedro Gómez, Paloma Alcalá, based on applying the objectivity, transparence and confidentiality principles, ensuring the treatment of the proposals on equal terms and the impartiality for judging the proposals.

In the last year call, coinciding with the Year of the Science, the CReSA also received a subvention from the FECYT for carrying out the activity “Approach to the veterinary science at the CReSA”.
