CReSA has participated in Escolab 2009 with the activity called “Mad cows, bluetongue, avian flu… disease that we are investigating“. A total of 250 students visited the CReSA building, located at the UAB campus.

The students attended a speech and discovered what the CReSA is, the research activities developed at the center and the biosafety measures needed to work in this high biological safety center. They also made a guided visit around the level 2 biosafety laboratories and an outside visit to the level 3 biosafety facilities.

CReSA received 13 secondary level students during Escolab 2009:

  • Escola Pia de Caldes (Caldes de Montbui)

  • IES Bisbe Sivilla (Calella)

  • IES La Ferreria (Montcada i Reixac)

  • Escola Municipal del Treball (Granollers) – 5 groups

  • Escola Pia Santa Anna (Mataró)             - 2 groups

  • Col·legi Sant Gabriel (Viladecans)

  • IES Miquel Martí i Pol (Cornellà de Llobregat)

  • IES Can Vilumara (Hospitalet de Llobregat)

Escolab is an initiative of the Institute of Culture (ICUB) and the Institute of Education (IMEB) of the Barcelona City Council, and benefits from the participation of the research centers which offer different activities. Scientists from Barcelona have organized a set of activities addressed to High School students held in various labs, universities and companies. From January to April students were invited to participate in more than 50 activities, including guided visits around facilities, workshops and experiments.
