Relevant facts of the research activities of the CReSA in 2008

Last year, the team of researchers of the CReSA reached the following achievements, among others: 58 scientific, indexed articles, 134 communications in congresses, 1 patent, 29 competitive projects in course (4 European projects funded by the 6th Frame Program among them), 9 doctoral thesis, and 35 new contracts with private companies.   • 58 indexed articles were published and 134 communications were presented in congresses.
  • A new invention patent was requested within the bacteriology area.
  • 29 competitive projects in course were funded with 1.6 millions €.
  • 9 doctoral thesis and 12 research works were defended.
  • CReSA participated for the first time in 4 European projects funded the 6th Frame Program; 3 projects funded the 7th Frame Program will start in 2009.
  • A European research award in virology was won.


  • 35 new contracts with private companies have been signed.
  • 68.092 testings were carried out (virology service) as ordered by the Generalitat of Catalonia.
  • PRIOCAT assumed the analysis of samples of all the ruminants for the active surveillance program of the Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies (TSEs), collaborating with the Health Department (DS) and Agriculture, Food and Rural Action Department (DAR) of the Generalitat of Catalonia).
  • More than 300 secondary level education Catalan students visited the center, since several activities addressed to schools were organized.
  • CReSA took over the organization of the 6th International Symposium on Emerging and Re-emerging Pig Diseases that will be held in Barcelona in 2011.
  • 332 subscriptions to the CReSA electronic bulletin were achieved.
