Defence of doctoral thesis on porcine circovirus type 2

Next Friday, 17th of July 2009, Maria Fort de Puig, PhD student of the CReSA, will defend her doctoral thesis entitled “Characterization of immune responses to porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) infection and vaccination in pigs”, directed by Dr. Enric Mateu de Antonio and Dr. Joaquim Segalés i Coma.

The objectives of the doctoral thesis presented by Maria Fort de Puig are the characterization of the immunological response generated during the course of the porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) infection, as well as a response to the vaccination against this virus.

The major interests of this thesis are the contribution to clarify which are the mechanisms involved in the protection against PCV2, and the practical interests of the results which go into the factors that can have an influence of the vaccine efficacy in depth. It also gives relevant recommendations for the correct application of the vaccines in the field.

The event will be hold next Friday 17th July, 2009, in the Sala de Graus of the Veterinary School of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, at 12:00 h.
