Visit of the vice-president and acting president of the Catalan government, Josep-Lluís Carod-Rovira, to the CReSA

The vice-president and acting president of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Josep-Lluís Carod-Rovira, visited the CReSA on Monday, 17th August. He announced that the Executive is studying “a greater involvement and compromise” with the CReSA, a center “of excellence and international prestige”; and that the Catalan Government supports the center.

After visiting the CReSA building, Josep-Lluís Carod-Rovira considered as “logical” that the Catalan government considers to maintain and increase this “compromise”, taking into account that “safety is a factor of concern to the Catalan Society” and CReSA is a center “of excellence” of recognized, international prestige.

The vice-president was accompanied during the visit by the President of the Executive Commission of Biocat, Manel Balcells; the general director of the vice presidency, Rafel Niubò; the deputy mayor of Presidency and acting mayor of Cerdanyola del Vallès, Jordi Miró; and the director of the CReSA, Mariano Domingo, and other people responsible for the management and research of the center.

According to the vice-president of the Catalan government, “it is logical that at this moment, in which safety is a concerning factor of the Catalan Society, the Government has to analyze and consider how to get a greater involvement and compromise with these research activities; they are essential and citizens logically ask for it”.

In this sense, Josep-Lluís Carod-Rovira remembered that the main objective of the CReSA is “the safety, the food safety” and highlighted in this context “the considerable efforts” of the scientific community “to guarantee not only the good conditions of food, but also possible diseases or infections that could come from animals; and it needs a scientific work of research, prevention and study”.

The vice-president of the Catalan government wanted to recognize the tasks carried out by the researchers of the Centre de Recerca en Sanitat Animal and stated that visiting the center has allowed to confirm by himself that CReSA “is a center of excellence, a very important center of research” with “contacts and absolutely admitted international prestige”.
