The CReSA Avian Influenza Research Group is a multidisciplinary group made up of researchers, graduate students and technicians. This summary reflects the expertise of CReSA in Avian Influenza since this group was created in 2005.

Over the last four years, the CReSA Avian Influenza Research Group has been developing a series of tools, knowledge, and support services for the companies and institutions. The technological offer of the center consists of facilities, equipment and highly specialized services inside a building that includes level-3 biocontainment laboratories and level-3 biocontainment facilities for animals (BSL3).

The group is made up of eleven researchers, three graduate students and three technicians working on five areas:

  • Experimental Infections and Pathology
  • Immunology
  • Molecular Biology
  • Environmental Virology and Studies on Viral Inactivation
  • Field Studies and Epidemiology

At present, CReSA takes part in three research programs on Avian Influenza (funded by the 6th Framework Programme (6FP), National Institute for Agricultural and Food Research and Technology (INIA) and Ministry of Education and Science (MEC), respectively); and also it participates in a EU-funded COST Action.

CReSA also carries out the Avian Influenza surveillance programme in wild birds in Catalonia as ordered by the Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Action (DAR) and Department of the Environment and Housing (DMAiH).
