Future prospects in the development of vaccines against RNA viruses

The meeting organized by the European network EUROPRRSNET will take place in Barcelona (10-11 June 2011). Future prospects for developing vaccines against the Porcine Respiratory and Reproductive Syndrome Virus (PRRSV) will be presented. The deadline for the abstracts submissions is May 15th, 2011.

This event is a satellite meeting for the 6th International Symposium on Emerging and Re-emerging Pig Diseases that will be held in Barcelona (June, 12-15). The European network “The EuroPRRSnet Workshop on PRRS Immunology and Vaccinology” will discuss the future prospects for developing vaccines against the PRRSV, taking into account the advances in development of RNA viruses vaccines and in PRRSV immunology.

EUROPRRSNET (http://europrrs.net) is a European Network for Understanding and Combating Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome in Europe. This network is funded by the European COST office. The objectives of the Action are to generate specific outcomes such as the identification of key challenges and propose potential solutions to problems to increase progress and facilitate the use of new technologies in animal health. This Action will improve understanding of, and hence better control, of PRRS. The strategies derived from this Action will benefit animal health, producers, public health and allied organizations that have a stake in animal agriculture systems. The recommendations will be widely disseminated and serve as a roadmap for training and future initiatives. The network includes 4 Working Groups:

  1. Epidemiology and economic impact
  2. Immunopathogenesis
  3. Development of vaccines
  4. Diagnosis

Working Groups 2 and 3 will met in Barcelona. The programme includes 3 sessions:

  1. Perspectives for the development of vaccines against human RNA viruses.
  2. Immunology and vaccinology of PRRSV.
  3. New perspectives in PRRSV immunopathology and vaccinology.

The call for abstracts submission is open for young researchers aged 35 or still in training (enrolled in a PhD program). Topics will be PRRSV immunology, vaccinology or immunopathology. Abstracts will be submitted to the following email: euroPRRSNet.young.communication@cresa.uab.cat. The deadline for the abstracts submissions is May 15th, 2011.

Number of attendees will be limited to 50 people (most of them form EU countries). The meeting will take place in Casa Convalescència (Aula 11), Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau de Barcelona (World Heritage by UNESCO).
