More than 100 science teachers attended a workshop organized by the CReSA

The “I update workshop for science teachers” organized by the CReSA was hold in July 2012, 4. This first edition was entitled “Zoonosis: concepts, techniques and biosafety” and was very successful, with more than 100 registrations.

The attendants came from different secondary schools in Catalonia: Barcelona, Tarragona, Les Borges Blanques, Olot, Barberà del Vallès, Rubí, L’Hospitalet del Llobregat, Viladecans, Cerdanyola del Vallès, and other cities.
The workshop was inaugurated by Jordi Sabaté, Head of the Innovation and Training Service for Secondary School of the Departament d’Educació of the Generalitat de Catalunya.

Theoretical classes carried on in the morning at the UAB Veterinary School: Update on microbiology and bacterial resistance, Immunology and new vaccination strategies, Update on laboratory techniques, and Zoonotic diseases and biosafety and biocontainment procedures. Visits to the CReSA laboratories were scheduled in the afternoon: PCR preparation: extraction, amplification and electrophoresis, Pathological anatomy laboratory, Virology and cell culture, Bacteriology laboratory and external visit around the BSL3 laboratories.

The workshop was funded by the Fundación Española para la Ciencia y la Tecnología (FECYT).
