A CReSA project wins the third prize in the Generating Ideas Programme organized by the PRUAB

Enric Vidal, researcher from CReSA, and Ferran Sala, researcher from the Pharmacy Service of the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital, won the third prize in the Ideas Generating Programme of the UAB Research Park (PRUAB) for the presentation of the CReSA project called SESC (Support Service for Slaughterhouses).

SESC, an initiative by CReSA and the Catalan Agency for Public Health (Health Department, Government of Catalonia), offers integral management services for the identification of relevant diseases which could affect public and animal health. Also, the project provides tools (through telematic and laboratorial enquiries) that help establishing these diagnoses and improve the efficacy of veterinary meat inspection.

The awarding ceremony was held on 29th November, where the prizes were given to the three winners. This year was the second edition of the competition, which was aimed at the promotion of initiatives in the bio-sector. First prize went to MyStone, a tool which allows for faster identification and classification of kidney stones, and the second prize was awarded to the Celifast project, a biosensor for fast diagnosis of coeliac disease.

In addition, a consolation prize was awarded to the project placed fourth, a portable device for early detection of viral infections, presented by researchers Marc Masa, from LEITAT, and Nuria Busquets, from CReSA.

The winners received a first prize of 2,500€ and a six months stay at the Eureka Building, a second prize consisting of 1,500€ and a third prize consisting of 1,000€. A jury of experts in charge of evaluating the business ideas chose the winners from a total of six projects which had reached the final stage of the competition.

Generating Ideas Programme

This year took place the second edition of the Generation of Ideas Programme, a joint initiative by the UAB and the PRUAB. Its main goal is the development of business ideas and the transformation of such ideas into real business projects. This year’s edition was aimed at the creation of projects in the bio-sector. The previous edition, aimed at Ph.D. graduates of the UAB School of Engineering, helped start 12 projects, 2 of which have become companies which continue to be running today.

The programme is aimed at the Ph.D. students and researchers who wish to generate market solutions from their research. The programme, which lasted 7 weeks, includes a phase for the generation of ideas, a phase for the training of the business management key aspects and, finally, the competition, which awards the 3 best submitted projects.
