The Department of Health is the new member of the Trust Board of CReSA

The Secretary of Public Health of Catalonia, Antoni Mateu Serra, is the representative of the Department of Health in the Trust Board, the maximum decision body of CReSA. This board has the purpose to represent, manage and administrate CReSA, and also guarantee the compliance of the objectives of the institution.

The objectives of CReSA are the research, development and transfer in the field of animal health and in all those aspects that can have an impact on public health. Subsequently, the Trust Board is made up of the institutions UAB (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona) and IRTA (Institut de Recerca i Tecnologia Agroalimentàries), that hold the presidency and vice-presidency, respectively, DAAM (Departament d'Agricultura, Ramaderia, Pesca, Alimentació i Medi Natural), DECO (Departament d'Economia i Coneixement), ICERCA (Institució de Centres de Recerca de Catalunya), MAGRAMA (Ministerio de Agricultura, Alimentación y Medio Ambiente) and DSLT (Department de Salut).

The professional bond between CReSA and the Department of Health was established years ago through the commission for the control and surveillance plan of the animal transmissible spongiform encephalopaties of animals destined for human consumption and, also, by the SESC (Slaughterhouse Veterinary Support Service), which was generated thanks to an initiative of the Agència de Salut Pública de Catalunya (ASPCAT).

This incorporation to the Trust Board, with the Health Secretary as a vocal and the Director of Health Protection of ASPCAT, Lluís Picart Barrot, as a substitute, is an indicator of the interest of the Department of Health in those activities developed by CReSA in the field of the public health, food security and animal zoonosis.
