CReSA collaborates with Infopork

Dr. Ivan Díaz, researcher at CReSA, has been invited to collaborate periodically with Infopork’s journal and website in order to present the last scientific studies conducted in CReSA. Exceptionally, the first article addresses “the economic impact of the pork reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) in three countries: Spain, United States of America and Holland”.

In this article a special emphasis is made in the way each farm’s specific circumstances significantly influence the financial impact that an outbreak of PRRS can lead to. Thus, the loss can vary according to the farm’s previous immunological status, the virulence of the strain involved in the process, the handling, the internal and external biosafety measures, etc.

However, the cost due to PRRS is generally considered to be very high –that’s the reason why Dr. Ivan Díaz advised to use the existing knowledge about this syndrome “as a tool to plan control and/or eradication measures, both at private and regional levels. If we are able to assess, even superficially, the cost in our personal situations, we will be able to seriously consider the implementation of viable and profitable control and/or eradication measures.”

The collaboration between CReSA and the Infopork journal aims at being an open window connecting the laboratory and the clinical veterinary from Latin America. The objective is to present the last scientific studies conducted by CReSA and to discuss their implications and possible practical repercussions.

Infopork defines itself as “an international community exclusively dedicated to pig industry” and, in addition to the journal, it is also present in the Internet where it makes sure to be constantly up-to-date with specialised articles, videos, and news of interest from all over the world: Spain, United States of America, Chile, China, Argentina (where its headquarters are located), Thailand, Italy, etc.
