CReSA is awarded with 7 projects from the Spanish Scientific-technical Research and Innovation National Plan 2013-2016

African swine fever virus, bovine tuberculosis, viral evolution of the porcine circovirus type 2, the Rift Valley fever, influenza viruses, Glässer's disease and prion diseases are the topics of the new projects that the State Secretariat for Research, Development and Innovation (Estado de Investigación, Desarrollo e Innovación), as part of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad) has decided to finance to CReSA. These projects fit within the framework of Spanish National Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation 2013-2016 (Plan Estatal de Investigación Científica y Técnica y de Innovación 2013-2016).

Five projects are integrated in the National Programme for Research Aimed at the Challenges of Society:

The others projects are integrated in the National Programme for Fostering Excellence in Scientific and Technical Research, specifically in the National Sub-Programme for Knowledge Generation:

  • Study of the spontaneous infectivity models (and its zoonotic potential) in prions diseases which affects species that may interest stockbreeders (ovine and bovine) (principal researcher: Dr. Enric Vidal)
  • Emergence of Rift Valley fever in Europe: evaluation of the local mosquitoes role in the potential spread of the disease (principal researchers: Dra. Núria Busquets, Dr. Nitu Pagès)

Both initiatives are classified inside the performance of the Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation 2013-2016. The National Programme for Research Aimed at the Challenges of Society has as essential aim encourage the knowledge, and oriented it toward eight overall objectives of the Spanish Strategy for Science, Technology and Innovation:

  1. Health, Demographic change and wellbeing;
  2. Food safety and quality, productive and sustainable agricultural activity, sustainability of natural resources, marine and maritime research;
  3. Safe, efficient and clean energy;
  4. Sustainable, smart and integrated transport;
  5. Climate change and efficient action in the use of resources and raw materials;
  6. Social changes and innovations;
  7. Digital economy and society;
  8. Safety, protection and defence.

The other program has the aim to promote, by means of highly competitive tenders, the execution of basic research projects and other activities, the results of which represent a significant advance in knowledge for developing new approaches and methodologies otherwise unachievable and which due to the nature of the knowledge generated are of a significantly transverse and basic nature.
