11th Annual Scientific Meeting on Microbiology

Next Friday, November 21th, the 11th Annual Scientific Meeting on Microbiology, known in Catalan as RECAM, is going to be celebrated. It is a event promoted by the Catalan Society of Biology. The aim is to debate about the more recent advances of the microbiology, to introduce different groups dedicated to the microbial sciences and to promote cooperation activities between laboratories, research centers and universities.

This activity is addressed to microbiologists, personnel from research centers, professors and students from diverse branches of life and health sciences, as well as other professionals who can be interested in the advances on microbiology.

The talks will be given by experts like the Dr. Ricardo Guerrero, president of the Spanish Society for Microbiology, as well as by the Dr. Núria Radó-Trilla, Doctor in Biomedicine and specialized in evolutionary genomics, and by the Dr. Pilar Orús, Head of the Department of Microbiology of Europe in REVLON Company. Who also will participated are Dr. Olga Sánchez, assistant professor of the Department of Genetics and Microbiology in the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), Dr. Marta Royo-Llonch, young biologist responsible for the genetic and metagenomics study of Marine Bacteroidetes population with Single Amplified Genomes (SAGs) inside the TARA Oceans equipment, and the Dr. Francesc Xavier Abad, CReSA BSL2/BSL3 Laboratories Manager.

The contribution of the Dr. Abad will be focused on defining the importance on regulation and set up of systems of biological containment to work with pathogenic or highly pathogenic microorganisms. The knowledge and a proper application of the regulations and the biocontainment systems will guarantee the safety of the researchers team, as well as the community  and the environment.

Mercè Berlanga and Jordi Urmeneta are the organizers of the RECAM 2014, which will be celebrated in the Sala Pere i Joan Coromines, in the building of the Institut d’Estudis Catalans, at 9:20h.
