A delegation from the Colombian Association of Pig Producers visits the CReSA

Colombian entrepreneurs from the pig sector affiliated to the Colombian Association of Pig Producers visited the CReSA on September 26th of 2014. This encounter was organized in the framework of a technical tour through the pig sector in Catalonia during the September 21st to 27th.

Dr. Joaquim Segalés, Director of the Centre de Recerca en Sanitat Animal (Research Center for Animal Health, CReSA), welcomed the group and explained the story as well as the activities carried out in the CReSA, a reference research center unique in Catalonia, then, he accompany through the biosafety laboratories (BSL2 and BSL3).

The group of 21 Colombian entrepreneurs also visited other centers of the Institute for Research & Technology Food & Agriculture (IRTA), besides other companies related with the sector, such as the Cooperativa d’Ivars, Vall Company, Guissona Food Corporation, Rotecna and the company Frigorífics Costa Brava the first authorized in Catalonia to export swine meat to the United States.

Furthermore, they were in a meeting with the Federation of Cooperatives, participated in round tables with sanitary technicians (with livestock ordinance) and conciliatory representatives. Finally, they also meet Josep María Pelegrí, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, Food and Natural Environment of the Catalan Government (Generalitat de Catalunya - DAAM), Miquel Molins, General Director of Agriculture and Livestock (DAAM) and Domènec Vila, General Director of Food, Quality and Agro-Food Industries (DAAM).
