Doctoral thesis on pandemic flu

Next Friday 15th, Beatriz Vidaña Mateo, PhD student from CReSA, will defend hes doctoral thesis entitled “Pathogenesis of the 2009 pandemic influenza A (H1N1 ) infection in the ferret model", directed by Dr. Natalia Majó and Dr. Jorge Martínez.

The pathogenesis of pandemic H1N1 Influenza virus infection results from various processes involving the host immune system and their response to virus-induced changes. Understanding both virus and host response characteristics is important for the future development of therapeutic strategies against infection. The present dissertation studies the interactions which occurred between the virus and the host innate immune response, in ferrets experimentally infected with human H1N1 viral isolates.

The lecture and defense will take place next Friday, May 15th, at 12:00h, at Sala de Graus of the Facultat de Veterinària (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona).
