Postgraduate course "Strategies in biosafety and biocontainment" open registration

This course, organized by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and with the acknowledgement and support of the Asociación Española de Bioseguridad (AEBioS), will be held from 5 to 9 October, 2015 at the UAB. Staff from the Centre de Recerca en Sanitat Animal (IRTA-CReSA) will participate as teachers.

At present there is a growing demand for experts in biosafety in the context of new biological technologies and emerging social interest in this field (genetically modified organisms, new viruses, emerging diseases, bioterrorism, etc.). This course, on a presential modality, has 15 places for professionals in the field of Biosciences, Health Sciences and Veterinary Medicine, and will provide basic knowledge and skills in biosafety.

The agenda covers a variety of topics: regulations, biological risk assessment (sources and classification), control risk (hygiene measures, containment systems, personal protective equipment, HEPA filtration, transport of biological material, emergency management, training and information, ISO 15793 for biological risk management, etc.), biosafety work with animals, plants and cell lines, and a module with five specific practices.

The course will take place from 5 to 9 October, 2015 at the Veterinary School of the UAB and IRTA-CReSA facilities. It is organized by the Faculty of Biosciences and Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, with support from the Office of Environment of the UAB and the Spanish Association of Biosafety (AEBioS).
