Vet+i visits IRTA-CReSA to promote public-private partnership with Singular Scientific and Technical Infrastructures (ICTS) centers

Last Tuesday April the 26th, Day of Public-Private Partnerships took place and included a visit to IRTA-CReSA Center. The Animal Health Research Centre (CReSA) is the animal health program at the Institute for Food and Agricultural Research and Technology (IRTA), a public company of the Generalitat de Catalunya, attached to the Departament d'Agricultura, Ramaderia, Pesca i Alimentació (DARP).   CReSA was established as a public foundation in 1999 by the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and IRTA itself, and was finally incorporated into IRTA in January 2015.

On arrival at CReSA-IRTA, the facility director,  Joaquim Segalés, welcomed attendees and presented the characteristics of the Centre. HE also dscussed the biosecurity measures needed to proceed with the visit. Then he gave the floor to Jordi Casal, Ignacio Badiola and Lliliane Ganges, which more closely presented the research lines and possibilities of the Center for Animal Health companies within the research subprograms of Epidemiology and risk analysis; Endemic diseases, as well as Exotic diseases research.

The center brings together the human potential of research in animal health of the two founding institutions, and leverages a new technologically advanced building, with biocontainment level 3 (BSL3) to develop research, grouping efforts and channeling new resources in this field.

Nearly 30 experts from about 20 companies, attended this visit and public-private partnership day, and could visit its biocontainment level 3 (BSL3) facilities. A lunch was then organized to  facilitate networking with other companies and CReSA researchers. Participating companies and CReSA staff, assessed this initiative very positively,  celebrating both its organization and its usefulness for possible future collaborations between the centre and the companies.

is committed to contribute to the use of Singular Scientific and Technological Infrastructures (ICTS), and other technology and research centers in the field of Animal Health and publicize their infrastructure, lines of work, scientific-technological services and qualified staff to companies to promote innovative product development.
