IRTA-CReSA at the 10th Annual Meeting EPIZONE, Madrid 2016

The 10th Annual Meeting EPIZONE (European Research Group for Epizootic Disease Diagnosis and Control) hosted by CISA-INIA will take place from 27-29 September in Madrid. The venue of the meeting will be Hotel Novotel Madrid Center. The emphasis of EPIZONE will be on communication between all partners within the research group and with external partners to better exchange new research outcomes and to monitor the spread, transmission and emergence of epizootic viruses.

The scientific program is divided in three main topics including stimulating themes: (i) animal health in a changing world (presentations on West Nile virus and Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome, among others), (ii) threats at the European borders (discussions about Rift Valley fever virus, RVFV; Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus, MERS-CoV,…), and (iii) current challenges inside Europe (including African swine fever, ASF, and Bluetongue virus, among others). This edition has the participation of some researchers, technicians and students from the IRTA-CReSA, and three of them will participate as speakers in different sessions. Ana I. Nuñez, from Dr. Núria Busquets’ group, will present her studies on vector competence of different mosquito species in relation with RVFV. Dr. Júlia Vergara-Alert will talk about the susceptibility of different animal species for MERS-CoV. Finally, Dr. Fernando Rodríguez will discuss the progresses made in the design of an experimental vaccine against ASF.
